:( - (long family pet talk.) (er, Spawn probably shouldn't read this. I hope the vet visit went well!)

so my mom's miss molly had to be put to sleep on saturday. she was 17+, had a couple of bonus years of amazingly renewed spryness thanks to hips & joints treats, long after I called her "little old lady who..." she was failing for a while, but still was stoic and got around ok until last week. a good long life with bonus time = really sad, but not the worst.

ahead is worse.

rewriting this as I have spoken with my sister and the vet twice(the bank of b. has a kitty fund, dontcha know) since I started writing this, originally asking for good thoughts.

what's worse than one cat being put to sleep in less than a week? two cats. this one younger. I'm about to head to my mom's for one last visit, as my sister is bring Andy home to say goodbye to me, my mom, and his brother and other adopted kitty siblings.

molly's younger brother (I think he's around 11-12? something like that) in kitty love and favorite cuddle partner Andy, a great big, beautiful maine coon who came, along with his brother, from a backyard feral mama when my mom and stepfather lived in a previous home, hasn't been feeling his best self for the past while. he lost a little bit of weight, but with spring weather that's not abnormal - the kitties move around more inside, etc. he started to have some other symptoms at the end of last week, but he was still eating and drinking* ok until yesterday/today.

my sister took him to the vet today, after his eating and drinking went to almost nothing and he started to make some kind of troubled breathing sound. it turned out that there's some kind of mass in his throat area, likely cancer. after x-ray and needle biopsy, plus the size of the tumor and that he has breathing involvement as well as it impacting his eating and drinking, any attempts at treatment are not likely to be successful. (for a vet to say that..) :/

it's already been a sucky week, for a variety of work and personal reasons; but this now makes it number two in suckiest b. birthday weeks ever (first was my dad unexpectedly dying 29 years ago today, 3 days after my birthday). ugh. (st missed my birthday, btw - good company, as so did my best friend of 20+ years as well as some other folks who don't usually. I have no idea. on I go!)

just had to make my mom not talk to me on the phone, as she was making me cry and I have a drive ahead. oy.

*happier Andy P. Andy content: he's always been a funny guy in multiple ways, one of which is that he has always loveloveloved his water and is known for frequently "sitting at the watering hole" aka a water bowl, with his paws around it and droplets of water on his forehead, caused by his really getting into drinking.

as I drive, I'm going to work to think of him doing that, going belly up in a hallway and making everyone pay the cat toll (petting his tummy) to pass, and his being the community face/head/ear licker of choice from his siblings. also, he never realized he wasn't kitten-sized. a big ol' boo who thinks he's a kitten and climbs or, more breath-takingly, jumps up while you're sleeping to steal your warmth is something.

send some good, strong thoughts, please and thank you, as this is going to suck, bite, and blow. :( -

if you read all this, bless your heart. ;*
