I applied for a Trainer position at work. I had my first interview and it went fine. I feel I'm a strong internal candidate, but they are also interviewing external candidates with specific training and content development experience. It would be a lateral move with approximately the same pay. It would also be a lot less stressful. Career wise in general I'm not sure what it would do for me unless I specifically wanted to move into the training field. Within that department there's not really a path for advancement. I have a decent chance of getting the job but they also could really be looking for the training background.
Now one of my Supervisors let me know that he has taken a job at another company. At this point I am the only person at work he's told. He is going to tell the higher ups on Monday. I've been told by people who would be heavily involved in making the decision that the next Supervisor position that opened up would be mine. It would be a promotion and more money. It's the next logical step in career progression and would more obviously transferable experience outside the company. The stress level would remain and it would be more hours. It's close to certain that I would get this job.
So I guess I just need to proceed on both tracks until I'm forced to make a decision which I might not have to make anyway. I hate having to make decisions.
