Would taking control of the MTA back from the state help us in getting the funding they need or would it be in more trouble?

From what I can tell, the state doesn't really give a shit about working with the MTA to figure out how to fund the projects and upgrades. They just bicker and the state continues to under fund the system.
And to be honest, I don't want to hear about new train lines or extensions while the system we have is failing on a regular basis. Fix the system and then worry about adding new lines.
DeBlasio pissed me off the other day with his talk about the Utica line. He knows he has no control over the MTA and they're already $20-30 billion under funded. You can promise new lines on every avenue but it's meaningless when you have no say or money to get it done.
