A less glib answer: They hoteliers are running into a conflict between several of their tribes.

The are part of the "Gay tribe", the "business owner tribe" and the "supporter of Israel tribe".
They were seeking to further their interests in the "supporter of Israel tribe", but did so at the expense of the "Gay tribe" and being gay is an immutable aspect of a person so that tribe took offense that the hoteliers were putting being gay below supporting Israel.
