The article goes back and forth between funny, serious and satire and I think it looses the focus.

If the person ran into a corner store for milk, could see the car from the window and came back out in three minutes, I might be okay with this. But I dont buy someone in a party store for "10 minutes." Its never that short.
Princess Disney will be five before I even think of leaving her in the car while I run into a store for something. She gets a much better learning experience from the five minute trip than by sitting in the car.

The mom working while the kid is in the park bothers me too. Nine is old enough to be on her own in a park but mom must be there for a few hours and while the mother being arrested was stupid, its not good parenting to have a nine year old sitting in a McD's or playing in a park all day.

Long parenting rant over :)
