For the feeling you're trying to achieve with the video, I think you would be better off with simple cross dissolve rather than the jerky transition

you're currently using.
Don't make your text move, center it, not too big. Make it appear and disappear, keep it simple.
Fade in and out your images, go to black between each image.
For your still photos, do a simple Ken Burns effect. That means introduce a small movement, zoom in or zoom out slowly.
I can help you do those things if you need. It's what I do for a living! :)
