guy cold calls, saying he thinks my company may be interested in buying his. we're not the correct department; but I quickly figure out what's on

offer doesn't match what we do at all, after looking at what he sent so I could pass info. along.

"unfortunately, what your company makes doesn't look like a good match for what we do; but I will pass it along." (unstated but it should be clear that I meant: "because I said I would.")

"so should I follow-up at the end of the week?"

I admire persistence, to a point; but, dude, maybe 30 seconds on our website or the company's wikipedia page should tell you it's not a good match.

this kind of thing happens all.the.time. oy. (er, not acquisitions as often as trying to sell stuff completely unrelated to what we do.) so much time wasted.
