Correct. Formative vs. Summative. We use a program that can weigh them for you.

You set up your own categories at the start of the semester. So you can customize it to what you do. Projects, Labs, papers, daily assignments, attendance, etc. and you assign each category a weight.

Then as you give points and enter each grade, you just click which category it goes in and the total grade is calculated on the fly.

So you could have 45 daily assignments worth 20 points each, but all together they only represent 25% of the total grade. and then you could have one project worth 100 points that also makes up 25% of the grade.

It's nice.
