Like most humans, he got comfortable doing what he liked and that still worked.

It wasn't new and inventive anymore, but the audience stuck with him and there was no reason to leave.

The last 10 years or so has been Dave putting on the same show every night, and that was what the audience wanted.

Colbert is really going to shake up that up in a few months. It will be vastly different having a host that is not only great at hosting, but can also sing, dance and act.

Dave was a great talk show host and probably the best ever. He just didn't have the range of someone like Stephen Colbert.
