SMC (Sycor Might Care). Followup re: my theater comments from yesterday

You were wondering why a human being needs to be up in the projection "booth" in this digital age. Figured out another job they have. Yesterday I worked as "greeter" for the first time. Among other things it involves coordinating with the booth *on each screening*. This is a fun job in which a person goes and physically stands in front of the audience for every screening in every room during an entire shift and gives a little speech/announcement before the presentation starts. We give a welcome. We say a bit about the movie including runtime. We crack a joke or two, and most importantly, we gently remind people about silencing/stowing their cell phones or other electronic devices. Longtime Arclight customers are used to it cause we've been doing it for a long time. Booth gives me a cue to start my speech and when I'm done, I give a little cue for the projectionist to start the presentation. Oh, and we promise each time to physically stand to the side of the room during the first moments of the presentation to make sure the sound and picture quality "up to Arclight standards." We have walkie talkie in case shit. Again, fun little job where you have plenty of room to be yourself and put your own spin for each audience. Bit of a downside: possibility of noticing theater sneakers like two certain other STers! ... ;-) Incidentally, my projectionist yesterday was also a trainee. So I was really working with two booth guys.
