Man gets stranded on Mars, man survives using his skills, man makes contact with nasa, mothership turns around to pick him up.
Now unless Hollywood has stopped being Hollywood, Matt Damon survives and is re united with his peeps back on earth.
So the question is, how much do people want to see matt Damon being rescued.
I think it would have made more money if people thought he might not make it.
