No one questioned because Ned claimed him and Jon looks like a Stark, same as Arya. I'd say Stark seed is strong, but Robb, Sansa and Rickon Cavour their mother. But Jon's eyes are different - Stark eyes are grey, while his are so grey they are black.
For David - I see Jon's parentage and personal history as preparing him to be the one who makes the peace between the White Walkers and the humans, especially after Dany arrives in Westeros.
But I also think that GRRM subverts tropes so much, that having a character appear and explain everything - that he's really a prince, that his mother didn't give him up, that this is his destiny, etc (and there is such a character in the books, who has only been off-screen to date) is a bit too pat a solution for the story.
I think he has made it obvious for the reader to see why it is Jon who plays the pivotal role, even if Jon Snow knows nothing.
