Technically speaking, routers shouldn't wear out. But they're assembled as cheaply as possible & subject to heat stresses 24x7.

It's possible that things could stop delivering voltages properly. Undervolted hardware could then execute the software in unpredictable ways.
Mostly I think they just get tired, though.
