Can any ST'ers come up with a scenario where a child has a different last name than either of their parents?....

So it would be like: Dad Brown, Mom Smith and Daughter/Son Jones.
I am e-mailing some of last summers campers to get them to register for this year and at least four campers so far have different names than either of their parents. When one parents name is different, I know of lots of reasons but am trying to find out why a child would have no name connection to either of their parents/guardian.

are you sure they're all parents and not guardians? I mean, unless it says MOTHER or FATHER it's not safe to assume. -- nm
