The Harpies were no more engaging or menacing than the wights (much less so, in fact). The only thrilling aspect was the (very not human) dragon.

Any emotion was derived from the dynamic between Mormont and Dany (and Dany/Drogon), which had nothing to do with the quality of their adversaries.
