there are plenty that don't have the doggies die. heh, I just went to try to save myself typing and I found a site called: doesthedogdie.com

and, most unfortunately to me, there have been movies (including some based on books*) that started as romcom-y and ended with deaths.
*books that it's possible I threw across a room.
