Anyone want to see if they can help me with a google spreadsheet COUNTUNIQUE formula?

I'm trying to use COUNTUNIQUE to return unique text values in a column after some rows have been hidden by a filter. COUNTUNIQUE by itself ignores the filter and counts visible and hidden row values, so I attempted to turn a helper column into subtotals, but it's giving me weird results. You can edit the sample spreadsheet.

Unfiltered, the A1 count should be 15. Filtering out blanks in the Monday column should update it to 7 (8 visible, 1 duplicate), and further filtering out blanks in the Friday column should update it to "Makes: 3."
