Unfortunately, our governments tend to deal with these sorts of issues in hindsight rather than be proactive. That's not specific to Newtown, but just general governmental incompetence.

There was a real interest kindled after Newtown about mental health issues and how society should treat/fund/assist those who suffer from them, but it all got drowned out by GUNZ!!!!! and the moment passed by.
