I think he was a fine hire. For the team he thought he was coming into.

Remember they hired him before LeBron and Love, when they thought the team was in full-on rebuild mode. He's that sort of coach, a guy who can take and mold younger players and improve over time.
What he's not is able to manage a bunch of ginormous egos, and that's what he ended up getting thrown into.
