I almost always check myself, even for work trips - sometimes our corporate agency will find better prices, sometimes not. -- (edited)

they can usually figure out why they're not a lower price and match it. especially if something looks weirdly high, like domestic during a time of week or year when things should be slower, I alwaysalways check.
less than I used to because, with implied acknowledgement that they didn't always serve us the best they could, they now use some service/sw that checks airfares and hotel rates for some period after booking -- that saved my company hundreds of K's in its first year alone.
