But they got people talking about those franchises again in a positive way, which led to greater success for later movies.

Without Batman Begins, there's no break-out success for The Dark Knight. Without Casino Royale, there's no Skyfall.
Genysis was a missed opportunity to do the same. (Though I know what you mean - we were all expecting it to be bad from when we saw the trailer, posters, etc...)
