I agree that there should have been better communication and planning, but those writers miss a lot. -- (edited)

there's an implication that coworkers/community members should have more of a say (or really impactful say besides feedback) in someone keeping his/her job than management should have.
also, while users should be respected and I think have feedback solicited from them about some things, some comments don't seem to get that it's a for-profit business and what that means. users volunteering their own time to create and support forums they like (and from which they do benefit, or else they shouldn't be doing it) give value to the company, but that's not the only driver the mix.
edited to take away an incorrect "don't" that I noticed when going to add another thought - I actually typed the above half an hour or so before posting it, because of interruptions.
ugh, another call, just gonna post. maybe more later, maybe not. ;p-me.
