we were led to think everything would be ok between he and Jo, and he learned from finding out what his wife intended to do that he could have a continuing relationship with a normal person.

if the show continued, they would have had to come up with something new to carry on with, as other shows have taught us you can/should only go so far with a single Big Bad.

I thought they might have him become mortal and then live out his life with Jo, but it really was fine as is. I think they knew they were likely to be cancelled and did that as a gift for viewers who hung in with them.

it was the nicest show I've watched in a long time - all the characters respected and cared for eachother and no random weirdness or silliness, just things in line with who they were, and they actually showed growth and stuck with it, unlike, say "Bones" which I quit watching for it.
