"So per Manitoba law, a parent gets one "Sick Kid" day"

Essentially. The law reads seven days per year for sick days thought, so we'll pretty run that one out. But here's the thing...

...Last Friday I had to take a day to attend a funeral back home. A family friend who I would see every Christmas and several times a year. There was no way I could miss his funeral, especially because the last time I saw him was Christmas before he was even diagnosed with the cancer.
I had to use one of my vacation days. I knew I would. I see where Mandy's coming from because lord knows there are employees that work their assess off and will take maybe a day a year or less of sick time (I'm one of them.), and then there is the "sniffle" gang that calls in for hangnails. I'm not suggesting that all parents who call in because of their children aren't desperately needed at home, but very often they are not and once again, the company pays for that in lost time and wages.
Those that abuse the "leave" days makes it really difficult for those who don't to turn a blind eye. Be different if we were paid out a bonus day or two of vacation day at the end up the year for every two or three days of unused sick time, but that's very unlikely to happen.
