Airports didn't have metal detectors until a rash of hijackings in the 70s.

It seems a certain subset of nutjobs have decided that movie theaters are a prime target when venting their crazy.
Yes, prohibiting bags and bag searches are a good start. It made sense from the start, if only to prevent people from bringing in their own candy.
But the 14-year-old middle school kid who rips my ticket isn't going to stop the nutjob with a gun, or even a knife.
