I saw Chef this weekend and I'm enjoying it more and more in retrospect, perhaps it had virtually zero drama in it. (spoilers?)

A Disney Channel movie has more tension and suspense in it than this movie. The tension with Hoffman's restaurant owner is rather innocuous. The guy is reasonable and sensible, not a dick. Chef Casper's collapse is little more than a comical social media explosion. He then builds a food truck with money borrowed from his ex-wife's quirky ex-husband. Leguizamo proves beneficial to the whole endeavor, never accidentally or purposefully sabotaging the project. Chef Casper's son is never really a point of strife between the Chef and his ex-wife, but rather something that brings them together. A road trip across the country sees no drama. Indeed, when confronted by a cop over a permit issue, it becomes a comical vignette. And then Chef Casper and the mean food critic make up and everyone lives happily ever after. It's like a fairy tale with Robert Downey Jr. as the fairy godmother.
