In response to "i just think killing them takes away all our moral high-ground. it can't be okay for the good guys, if it isn't okay for the bad guys." by Andie

I've said this before, but for a long time I was in favor of the death penalty on the theory that when someone commits a capital crime they forfeit

their right to continue being a burden on society. Part of that burden is the cost of continuing to house and feed them. So it's not so much the moral issue for me as it has been learning over time how incapable we are of administering the punishment fairly and justly. We are too imperfect to handle the responsibility of the decision.
