Anyone thinking of buying a home, it looks like the IRS has silently changed some procedures on tax return verification.

As far as I can tell, the issue is this:

Client signed a 4506 and the IRS is refusing to respond to the lender to verify that the copies of the tax return that were filed with IRS match what client gave to the lender. I am not sure if lender will only accept reply directly from IRS, not me.

Oops, just got email from client:

I am on the phone with the IRS now. They have a new rule-- they won't send transcripts to banks! New Rules... they will mail mine to me. They also laid off seasonal workers and added health care calls to the workload of the IRS call center. I had a three hour wait.. still on hold while they arrange to mail me documents!!
