Funny/interesting story from the weekend. My former landlady called me to try to figure out a cost basis for a stock.

Her then-fiance purchased Apple stock some time ago but she didn't have the date. I was able to narrow down the date range for her which was around April 1999. Since then, Apple has split three times (2-1, 2-1, and 7-1), making his cost basis around $1.25.
Apple currently goes for $112 per share. If he bought 100 shares at that time, it would currently be worth more than $300k.
Holy capital gains, Batman.
