I did a show called 'The Civil War' back in the day and we used a lot of the letters and speeches that are found in the documentary. The Sullivan Ballou letter was turned into a gorgeous ballad called 'Sarah'. It's a wonderful song.
I love the way people used to write to each other - the language, the expression. Just exquisite (imo).
