Has anyone given an i-device to their kids? Is there a way - say, through iCloud - to monitor your child's usage?

For instance, Microsoft has a Family Safety report and I can go to a website to drill down (I assume - I've never done it) for more information.

My son is going to be taking the bus home from school this year. He has an offline iPhone that he's been using for gaming and we're going to activate it for him. I want to be able to monitor his usage for obvious parental reasons.
