It is damn hard getting anywhere from here by air. Prices are way high and there are all these layovers in cities far from where you're going. For example, I could go from here to Houston, then to New Orleans. Or here to Atlanta, then to New Orleans. Instead, I chose here to Chicago, then to New Orleans. The first leg is only 20 minutes, layover is about an hour, total travel time just under 5 hours, which is fastest I found. I would have loved driving but that's a 2 day trip each way & we only have 5 days total for this.
This is my first trip to New Orleans. I'm taking my usual travel companion along, paying his ticket for his birthday which is the Monday after Thanksgiving. He's been going on about how New Orleans is on his bucket list. I told him this is also his Christmas present and maybe next year's birthday and Christmas, as well. He is to pay for the hotel but I get veto power on his choice. He already found some place called The Burgundy, a gay B&B that has a room with one queen bed & one twin bed. Vetoed.
Now to find somewhere for Thanksgiving dinner and make a reservation.

Duh...I'm an idiot...check Commander's Palace. I think they're open on Thanksgiving. If not...check them for a Sunday brunch. :) -- nm

K Paul's Louisiana Kitchen is fantastic. any of the 2 Emeril's places are awesome. Del Monico is the best of the 3, IMO. -- nm
