And, while some of those Likes may be "glad the bastard is dead" likes, the community has grown to read "Like"

As "This is Great", "I agree", "You have my support", etc. Which are all positive. So even if a person is expressing happiness at a death, at least the poster can be saved the in your face nature of a button that would express happiness at something the poster is clearly unhappy about. And that's what a "dislike" button would be: Way more negative than supportive.
