Corgi Update

I heard ST needs moar corgi.

Bobby went to the rainbow bridge in July after a long battle with Degenerative Myelopathy (similar to what Stephen Hawking has). There's no pain, and after 8 years with me it was easy to know when it was time to let him go.

Last August I participated in a corgi rescue where we took in a severely neglected dog that weighed only 18 pounds and had too many health problems to mention. I was originally called in as a behavioral consult and we were seriously thinking about euthanasia. Bobby was so concerned with the dog's state when first introduced running to me and giving his urgent something is really wrong bark. In the end it was decided that I'd try to nurse him back to health. The poor guy's stomach was so shrunken he could only be fed small amounts of food every three hours. After a year Oliver is very healthy and an amazing trail dog. He did a 7 mile ridge hike at 7000 ft of altitude with flying colors.

In December I took in an ex-gf's corgi while she was going through chemo. Unfortunately, it has become a permanent situation. Murphy always liked me so it was an easy transition for him. He loves the outdoors and I got him a little pack so he can carry his own treats on hikes.

Bobby played nurse for Oliver: alerting me when he needed to be taken outside, or needed help. When Oliver had trouble standing, Bobby would put his nose under him and help him up. In Bobby's final weeks Oliver returned the favor, letting me know when Bobby needed to be adjusted in his bed or taken out and expressed.

Oliver and Murphy are best buds now and look out for each other. They are constantly vigilant and try to keep my acre free of squirrels by chasing them off. They share food and can eat leftovers off the same plate. They love country living.
