I think the big problem for the Emmys is how fractured the viewing public is now.

It used to really matter because there were three networks and you knew everyone from every show.
Now the casual viewer of the awards, who may be a diehard viewer of many shows still sits there and goes "Who? What show is that? What is it on?" over and over and over.
