I have a feeling that morning after reviewers are starting to trend towards being a bit easier on awards show hosts. It's such a thankless job -- (edited)

and lots of funny and engaging people don't want to do it anymore because of the criticism.
5 - 10 years ago Samberg's monologue would have been eviscerated for being unfunny, flat and not that well performed.
