I knew it would come down to that "set points in time" nonsense.

It's a "set point in time" because the Doctor showed up, and nothing more. Despite being the story of a time traveler, the narrative is predictably linear. The only time the whole "traveling in time" component comes into play in a Doctor Who story is when the writers want to visit a point in Earth's past. Doctor Who and dinosaurs! Doctor Who and cavemen! Doctor Who and Victorians! Doctor Who and cowboys! Doctor Who goes back to prevent the creation of the Daleks? Hell no!
