When Milos Forman was casting Man on the Moon (Kaufman's bio-pic), he asked for audition tapes, but it was assumed Nic Cage would be given the role.

Jim Carrey ended up going balls to the ball on his tape including hiring Taxi co-stars and having it directed by Judd Apatow.

Nic Cage didn't prepare a tape. At the premiere, he was asked why not and he said, "My good friend Jim Carrey told me that men in our position shouldn't have to make audition tapes."
