"Can you imagine?" isn't really a comparison. And the mortality rates in these schools were a lot higher than the Canadian average for school children

at the time. Just look at the link I posted for depressing statistics like:

As late as the 1941-45 period the residential school death rate was 4.90 times higher than the general death rate

In nearly 50 per cent of cases there was no recorded cause of death.

Turberculosis accounted for just less than 50% of recorded death. The tuberculosis death rate remained high until the 1950s

etc...
