I don't know. From what I saw the pirates player was the guy who came out swinging (but of course there is no way to know). What I do know is that

there's no way Arrieta was throwing at the Pirates. It's absurd to think he'd hit a guy on purpose in a playoff game with a modest lead (and for no apparent reason). It's insane that the pirates threw at him.
