The Tories still have potential, but the former Reform branch has too much influence.

Mulroney, John Turner, Michael Wilson... they may have all been "old white men", prototypical establishment conservatives, but they were never as right wing as Harper or the Preston Manning gang. Canada still has potential to be lead reasonably in a rather centrist fashion by people from the Grits, Tories or NDP, but there are extremists in each of these parties. Harper was one of those extremists.
If Daddy Mulroney gets involved in the leadership race, I see the old Reform branch losing influence, and that's good for the Conservatives.
