Why has nobody punched Neelix in the face? (Star Trek talk)

I think I have mentioned that my son and I are watching The Next Generation all the way through. We are almost done with Season 5 (6 & 7 to go). Probably take about 2-3 months to finish. We watch 3 a week.
It has been great fun, some we do MST3K style others we have some really good discussion (Suicide and Androgynous culture happened recently).
Well. logically, Deep Space Nine would be the next series. But I wasn't thinking and started watching it a couple of weeks ago. He saw that and got a little mad. It was a good mad as he had bad temper when he was young. I apologized and stopped watching.
So I went to Voyager figuring it would be sometime in 2017 before we got close to Voyager territory.
But I am bummed because Voyager is just not that good compared to what I saw of Deep Space Nine. Voyager is fluffy compared to the deep rich stories from Deep Space Nine. I will give it a bit more, but I am getting close to dumping Voyager
And my main problem is Neelix. He sucks so bad and he is awful as comic relief. The Doctor started off as comic relief, but he was good at it and has moved on.
So I go back to my main question, Does somebody punch Neelix in the face?
