I dismiss the notion that the rich are voting against their economic interests by voting liberal/Dem.

They are voting for the long term economic health of society which very much *is* in their economic interest.
They recognize that the economic pie gets bigger as more people are involved in the economy, benefiting everyone.
The conservative rich folks often seem to have the opinion that the pie is fixed and the more people that share in it, the less there will be for each individual.
