I don't know, I think it does have utility, especially in a state like Kentucky where the legacy of the civil war and the civil rights era still play -- (edited)

into our politics. Democrats have an overwhelming registration advantage in Kentucky, but that's just residual GOB network stuff, where the primary is the real contest between two or three people who are still legacy Dixiecrats when they're at home.

*To tack on to this, it hasn't been that long in Kentucky since people would "You vote the way you shot" in re the Civil War/War of Damned Yankee Aggression.
I should clarify that I wouldn't say that Conway is a DINO, merely that he plays one on TV at the cost of his career. The three real races of his life (congress in '03, Senate in '10, this) he ran to right of center and lost his ass. He could have run as a socialist and been mayor of Louisville six times over.
