Army
Last Season: 15-15 overall, 6-12 conference
Last place in the Patriot League
Lost in the first round of the conference tournament
Sporting News Conference Prediction: 4th Place
Outlook: Army was actually in decent position midway through last season before going 1-9 in their last 10 games. They return 5 starters so they should improve. They look to be a middle of the pack Patriot League team who will look to get some luck in the conference tournament.
Chance to make the NCAAs: 29.3%
The Citadel
Last Season: 11-19 overall, 6-12 conference
Tied for 7th place in the Southern Conference
Lost in the first round of the conference tournament
Sporting News Conference Prediction: Last place
Outlook: The Citadel doesn't seem to be making any progress and they're in a conference that has a couple of good small conference teams.
Chance to make the NCAAs: 2.8%
Northwestern
Last Season: 15-17 overall, 6-12 conference
Tied for 10th place in the League
Lost in the 2nd round of the conference tournament
Sporting News Conference Prediction: 10th Place
Outlook: Being in a power conference comes with advantages and disadvantages. Northwestern has to compete with national title contenders but a middle of the pack finish could get them an at large bid. They seem to be making some progress but are probably a year away from really contending for an NCAA bid.
Chance to make the NCAAs: 24.7%
St Francis (NY)
Last Season: 23-12 overall, 15-3 conference
First place in the League
Lost 66-63 in the finals of the conference tournament
Sporting News Conference Prediction: 2nd Place
Outlook: They missed out on a golden opportunity last season as they were clearly the best team in the conference, but lost the conference tournament final. They will have to do without last year's conference player of the year. They will still contend but they won't be the outright favorite. They will be a high seed in the conference tournament with a legitimate shot to earn the NCAA bid.
Chance to make the NCAAs: 58.9%
William & Mary
Last Season: 20-13 overall, 12-6 conference
Tied for 1st place in the League
Lost in the finals of the conference tournament
Sporting News Conference Prediction: 3rd Place
Outlook: The Tribe has been knocking on the door by finishing as the conference tournament runner up the past two seasons. They've had the advantage that the conference's traditional power teams (George Mason, VCU, Old Dominion) have moved up to better conferences. They lost 2nd round NBA draft pick Marcus Thornton which will be a blow. They will not be the favorite but they should still contend.
