Look at where you live now. What do you like about it? What do you wish you had that you don't? Do you like gardening? Do you need a parking space -- (edited)

or a garage? Do you ever have house guests? Do you like to cook? How long do you think you'll live in the house? (Is resale value important?) Do you like home projects? How big of a project? How far away from work/shopping/dining/entertainment do you want to be?
The answers to these questions will go a long way to figuring out what you want.
I looked for 6 months before I found my house. I checked listings every day and kept to my price limit. I didn't rely on my realtor. I told her what I wanted to see & she set it up. I lucked out by catching the listing for my house as soon as it went up. I was the first person to view it. Made an offer before the first open house. But by then I knew what I *didn't* want as well as what I *did* want. I was much more educated because I saw a lot of houses that, for one reason or another, were not the right houses. I'm in the right house now.
It doesn't sound like you're under a time crunch. Just keep looking. Don't settle if there's something you're not sure about. Actually seeing houses from the inside will help you figure out what you want.
