That is my point. With a new number, I do not know if it is long distance or not.

Where before someone would leave a message without an area code, we knew it was local. Now people leave all ten digits and there is no way to know until you dial.

see, even when we had seven digits as a kid, the area code covered a huge area, so someone could be in the same code, but still long distance. -- nm

I don't care about that. If it requires a 1 and you do not dial, you get a recording. If it does not and you do, also a recording. -- nm
