It's quite common in Broadway shows for the race of the replacement/touring actors to change.

Unless a part is written to be a specific race (and even then...)

For example, Mimi Marquez in Rent was written as a Hispanic. She was originally portrayed by Daphne Rubin Vega on Broadway and Rosario Dawson in the movie.

At one point in the Broadway run, Tamyra Gray from Idol Season One played her. The last person to play her on Broadway was Renee Elise Goldsberry (who is amazing and is Hamilton now)
