obviously, the facial hair (and at a specific length) signifies that there's something in your that life . . .

that you're going thru specific steps to mask or cover up in the eyes of those around you. Being *facial* hair specifically, what you're trying to hide is likely of a very personal nature. And part of it (because of the period of time of unknowing) could be that you've been doing this at least some on an unconscious level.
as for work, it obviously means that you're looking to make a break for things for a while, and that Japan signifies something of a significant amount of time in the future (japan is far off) for you and there is anxiety towards your work and any preparatory needs you have for this pending downtime in your life . . .
