on another lighter note, "project runway" finale thoughts. (spoils, duh.)

lighter as in no death; but it had some things that really annoyed me, so...

first they gave the designers only 7 weeks (probably because of heidi's schedule?) instead of the multiple months they were given in the past, then they have the judges give less than 2 days based on seeing only 3 out of 10 pieces, to make major changes - I think it was tight in the past for the last part, but the turnaround time from regular eps to tim visits to nyfw seemed unreasonable; and that's likely a big reason why 3 designers out of 4 had to make such significant changes.

as I said the other day, I liked ashley from the start, until she lost her fabric-choosing mind among other bits, but then she got some sense back. I knew from part 1 of the finale, if not before, that we were being led to her being the winner. I'm not disappointed in her winning as much as, say, oh-so-blah-collection gretchen in the past; but, really, I don't think any of the 4 would have won vs. the top 2 in most recent past seasons. ashley had the plus-size shiny* edge, and she would have had to *really* sucked to not win.

all three of the other collections were disappointing to me, both before and after their critiques. edmond, my other fave from the start, lost his mind in a sea of gowns and showstoppers especially, and that sucked his time so he was rushing when he got to ny; candice got too inside her own head with drama and bigger-is-better; and kelly, who I grew to really like after a couple of eps, just didn't have a high-fashion collection - her special sauce vs. mall wear was her textile work (sans glitter) and that's not what makes a winner - really have no idea how she spent 9K unless it included covering her rent. eep.

I just took a look at a spoiler site that had swapnil's deception collection; and, if he'd gotten his poop tight and been able to stay, he totally would have won (at least if not for a plus-size fix). by a landslide. :/

*which is both amusing and gross to me, because the current state of plus-size offerings shows that it's decidedly unshiny for most designers and retailers - the struggle to find decent adult clothes for non-outrageous prices is really real. *sobs*
